Lifesaving defibrillators have finally been put into place throughout Witham and a number of adjoining towns and cities. This is fantastic news for the local communities and is a huge step forward in reducing the risk of casualties from cardiac arrest. There is an 80% chance of survival if a defibrillator is used, whereas this drops to 2% without one.

The new equipment was unveiled by Priti Patel, who is the MP for the Witham constituency and has been since 2010. The idea came from Steve Robbins, the community manager for Hunnaball Funeral Directors who faced a situation where a defibrillator could have saved a life previous to the installation.

"Sadly, I needed to use a unit in the town but didn’t know where to find one so after the tragic event I researched and found that although there were defibrillators in the town they were not accessible 24 hours a day."

"I approached Witham Chamber of Commerce and The Witham Town Team to see if they could help as we are members."

The Chamber replied by getting funding for the project from the Big Lottery Fund who happily backed the idea.
